Regular maintenance may not only prevent your
car from breaking down (it's always at the worst of times,
right?). It can also protect the trade-in value of your vehicle.
And even though these tips are very obvious: you will be surprised
how many car owners forget these simple maintenance suggestions:
Tires: check your tire pressure regularly. Use
snow tires for additional support in those dark months of
winter. Make sure that your tires are well aligned, and
rotate the tires for more even wear and tear: they will
last longer!
Tires (2): make sure that you always have a spare
tire, and that it is in a condition to actually serve you
in times of need.
Wipers: consider replacing your blades every 6
to 12 months. A clear view will prevent accidents.
Lights: it is not just important that your lights
work; also pay attention to the angle of the lights. Lights
aimed too high may blind approaching cars, causing accidents.
Fluids: check your fluids regularly, and conform
yourself to a maintenance schedule. Changing fluids will
expand your car's life expectancy. Think about engine oil,
antifreeze, transmission fluid, and brake fluid.
Brakes: make sure that your breaks don't let you
down when you need them most, and have the break pads, drums,
rotors and other elements checked periodically. A good inspection
requires the removal of all four wheels, so a tire rotation
or oil change is a good time to plan for breaks' maintenance.
Tune up: cars are expensive. But they get to be
even more expensive if you don't treat them right. Have
a regular tune up done, replacing sparkplugs, checking filters,
ignition performance and more.
